SOUTH   SIDE   RAILROAD   OF   LONG   ISLAND   1873



1873 BEERS ATLAS SHOWS WATSON HOUSE ON EAST SIDE OF FIRE ISLAND AVENUE AND THE TRACK OF THE BABYLON RAIL ROAD COMPANY,   A HORSE CAR AND LATER A TROLLEY LINE WHICH RAN FROM THE SOUTH SIDE RAIL ROAD BABYLON STATION TO THE FIRE ISLAND DOCK.   THE CENTRAL RAIL ROAD OF LONG ISLAND TERMINAL STATION WAS BUILT LATER IN 1873 ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE WATSON HOUSE.   THE C.R.R.L.I. WAS NEVER BUILT TO THE DOCK AS ORIGINALLY PROPOSED.

BY JULY 1875 CENTRAL RAIL ROAD OF LONG ISLAND TRAINS WERE RUNNING TO PATCHOGUE AND SOUTHERN RAILROAD TRAINS ONLY TO BABYLON.   PRESUMABLY THE WATSON HOUSE STATION WAS NO LONGER USED.   ON THE C.R.R.L.I. TABLE NOTE THE LOCATION "DARRYNANE" WHICH ALSO APPEARS IN AN 1880 L.I.R.R. EMPLOYE TIME TABLE.
