TOWER 74 1/2 CONTROLLED THE TROLLEY CROSSING AT OCEAN AVENUE.
TOWER 75 WAS AT MANHATTAN BEACH JUNCTION.
THESE SWITCHES WERE CONTROLLED FROM TOWER 75 BUT WERE
MANUALLY OPERATED WHEN THE TOWERS WERE CLOSED EACH WINTER.


TOWER 74 1/2 AT OCEAN AVENUE TROLLEY CROSSING
 

THE OCEAN AVENUE TROLLEY NEAR SHEEPSHEAD BAY.


MANHATTAN   BEACH   JUNCTION   TOWER - TOWER NUMBER 75 - WAS BUILT CIRCA 1885 AND WAS LAST LISTED IN THE EMPLOYE TIME TABLE AND C. R. 4 OF 1903.

A DECEMBER 1, 1906 GENERAL NOTICE LISTS TELEGRAPH OFFICES
WHICH ARE TRAIN ORDER OFFICES AND TRAIN REPORTING OFFICES.
MANHATTAN BEACH JUNCTION APPEARS ON BOTH LISTS.

GENERAL ORDER NUMBER 31 DATED MAY 17, 1906 ESTABLISHED AN ABSOLUTE TELEGRAPHIC BLOCK BETWEEN MANHATTAN BEACH JUNCTION AND PARKVILLE ON THE BAY RIDGE DIVISION EFFECTIVE MAY 21 THROUGH 26 AND JUNE 7 THROUGH 20.   ON THOSE DATES RACES WERE RUN AT CONEY ISLAND JOCKEY CLUB AND LONG ISLAND TRAINS RAN THERE VIA THE PROSPECT PARK & CONEY ISLAND RAIL ROAD FROM PARKVILLE.

TOWER 75 IN FOREGROUND AND 74 1/2 IN DISTANCE.




MANHATTAN BEACH  JUNCTION

THE DOUBLE TRACK CONNECTION TO BAY RIDGE HAS BEEN REDUCED TO ONE TRACK.


1910 - THE NEW STATION, NEW ALIGNMENT OF THE MANHATTAN BEACH
BRANCH TRACKS, ALL TRACKS DEPRESSED AND THE TOWER IS STILL THERE.
THE FOOTBRIDGE WAS STILL THERE IN 1986.

ON MARCH 6, 1906 TROLLEY WIRES HAD BEEN STRUNG AND BRIGHTON BEACH TRAINS OF THE BROOKLYN RAPID TRANSIT BEGAN RUNNING ON THE LONG ISLAND'S MANHATTAN BEACH BRANCH BETWEEN THE NEW "B.R.T. JUNCTION" AND SHEEPSHEAD BAY JUNCTION.   IN JULY THE TRACKS BETWEEN MANHATTAN TERRACE AND SOUTH GREENFIELD WERE MOVED A SHORT DISTANCE NORTH.



THE NEW TOWER WAS GIVEN THE NUMBER 75 FROM MANHATTAN BEACH JUNCTION TOWER.






JULY 12 1906 LOOKING SOUTH - WE SEE SIGNALS, PIPELINE, SWITCHES, DETECTOR BARS
AND FACING POINT LOCKS OPERATED FROM TOWER 75.  THE EASTWARD TRACK STILL OCCUPIES ITS ORIGINAL RIGHT OF WAY. THE WESTWARD TRACK HAS BEEN RE-ALIGNED.


EIGHTY YEARS LATER THIS SIGNAL TRUNKING, MANY CONCRETE FOUNDATIONS
AND A LENGTH OF PIPELINE REMAINED.  FROM A TEMPORARY INTERLOCKING!
