SAME PHOTOGRAPH - IN DISTANCE IS TOWER NUMBER 9, "GW" TOWER AT EAST SIDE OF COOPER AVENUE CROSSING. TOWER WAS A BLOCK STATION, OPERATED THE CROSSING GATES, AND WAS CLOSED IN 1908 WHEN AUTOMATIC SIGNALS WERE PLACED IN SERVICE. THE SEMAPHORE SIGNAL IN PHOTO AT THE LEFT IS THE WESTBOUND BLOCK SIGNAL. A TRAIN COULD MAKE ITS STATION STOP WHILE WAITING FOR THE PREVIOUS TRAIN TO CLEAR THE BLOCK BY PASSING TOWER NUMBER 8 - "DF" TOWER AT FRESH POND JUNCTION. MANY OF THE TRAINS SERVING GLENDALE MADE "f" STOPS - "STOP ON SIGNAL TO LAND OR RECEIVE PASSENGERS". THE SHORT SEMAPHORE SIGNALS AT EACH STATION PLATFORM ARE FLAG STATION SIGNALS OPERATED BY PASSENGERS.
