CENTRAL RAIL ROAD OF LONG ISLAND
CENTRAL RAIL ROAD EXTENSION COMPANY OF LONG ISLAND |
GREAT NECK JUNCTION WAS CREATED IN 1873 WHEN ALEXANDER T. STEWART'S NEW CENTRAL RAIL ROAD OF LONG ISLAND WAS CONNECTED WITH THE FLUSHING AND NORTH SIDE RAILROAD. THE ORIGINAL POINT OF SWITCH IS SHOWN AT THE LEFT SIDE OF THIS 1916 BLUEPRINT AT THE UPPER ARROW ABOVE THE NUMBER "50". THE NUMBER "385" APPEARS TWICE AT THE RIGHT: THE UPPER "385" IS ON THE MAIN TRACKS TO GREAT NECK AND PORT WASHINGTON, THE LOWER "385" IS ON THE C.R.R.L.I. TRACKS WHICH BECAME THE FLUSHING BRANCH IN 1879 WHEN THE LINE BETWEEN LAWRENCE STREET AND CREEDMOOR WAS ABANDONED. |
