EAST IS TO THE LEFT AND WEST TO THE RIGHT.
ORIGINAL TOWER WAS ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE MONTAUK BRANCH WEST OF GREENPOINT AVENUE CROSSING AND OPERATED THE CROSSING GATES.
IN MARCH, 1908 THE TOWER WAS MOVED TO THE SOUTHWEST QUADRANT, PERHAPS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE BUILDING OF THE MONTAUK CUT OFF. WEST IS TO THE LEFT AND EAST TO THE RIGHT. THIS IS JUNE, 1912. AT THIS TIME TRAINS ON THE MONTAUK CUT OFF "KEPT RIGHT" - NOTE THE EASTBOUND M.C.O. TRACK CROSSING THE WESTBOUND MONTAUK BRANCH.
EVENTUALLY TRAINS KEPT TO THE LEFT ON THE MONTAUK C.O. AND THE TRACKS BOTH CONNECTED WITH THE WESTBOUND MONTAUK BRANCH AND THERE WAS A SCISSOR CROSSOVER EAST OF THE CROSSING.
THIS IS 1929 AND THIRD RAIL TIES HAVE BEEN INSTALLED AND THE THIRD RAIL DISTRIBUTED PENDING ITS INSTALLATION.
THIS IS 1929 AND THE GRADE CROSSING AND GREENPOINT AVENUE DRAWBRIDGE ARE ABOUT TO BE ELIMINATED. THE LETTER "X" HAS JUST BEEN ELIMINATED FROM TELEGRAPHIC CALL LETTERS.

BOB EMERY PHOTOGRAPH CIRCA 1954 - SPIRAL STAIRCASE MAY HAVE COME FROM LONG ISLAND CITY STATION WHEN IT WAS RAZED.

THE VAN IDERSTINE COMPANY HAD SIDINGS NORTH AND SOUTH OF THE MONTAUK BRANCH JUST EAST OF THE TOWER.
IN 1960 THIS CABIN WITH A FOUR LEVER TABLE INTERLOCKER REPLACED THE FRAME TOWER
AND SPRING SWITCHES AND HAND OPERATED SWITCHES REPLACED THOSE FORMERLY OPERATED FROM THE TOWER.
