I was born on July 17, 1985. My parents are Russell and Heather Nelson, I have a younger brother named Eric, and I was married to Adam Jacobs until 2014. Adam and I recently graduated from the State University of New York at Potsdam and moved to Connecticut to attend graduate school at the University of Connecticut at Storrs. I am a graduate student now, but I have been a fiber enthusiast for most of my life. I learned to knit when I was ten years old, and I have been knitting ever since. I enjoy knitting, spinning, natural dyeing, quilting, sewing, embroidery, papermaking, felting, basketmaking, painting, and drawing. I formed Wild Orchid Fiberworks with my mother, Heather Nelson, to sell knitting and baskets. When I was in high school, I was a very active member of 4-H. I was a founding member of the Horticulture club and Pleasant Valley 4-H club, and a member of Sinclair Corners 4-H club. I competed in the National Junior Horticultural Association horticulture contest in plant identification and knowledge, taking second place at the national level. I was also very involved in the Public Presentations program, which helped me to discover my love of public speaking. If you would like to contact me to learn more about my work, send me an email at nelson49@potsdam.edu.
