by
Ruth Jones Ryan

All the wonders that follow spring, life renewed in all nature's
splendor from the pale green buds of trees to the palette set forth by
flowers spilling color across the landscape. A time of passion for all living
things to rejoice in rebirth, time captured in the simple pleasures
of growing things and original creations from one who is
born anew each spring, Ruth Jones Ryan.

"seeds for thought"
Order# TRV-435

As winter gathers force in early January in the North Country, mailboxes fill with seed catalogs, and garden enthusiasts eagerly linger over their colorful pages. With visions of newer, bigger results this year, we live a preview of springtime ahead, while enjoying all the comforts of home.

Melody from the Sky

Order# TRV-439

From my home’s back porch, as long-awaited springtime touched the landscape of the yard & garden beyond, an inviting picture spread out the setting for a robin’s beautiful song.

Last gray November, that same sweet melody had brought a thought: “Farewell little bird, find sunshine in the Southland with a safe return, and may this old lady be on hand to greet you in the spring!”

Late for Lunch
Order# TRV-438

One noonday in May, churchbells alerted me to lunchtime, and, turning, discovered Siamese cat (Abou) already ensconced in my wheelbarrow. And thus was created a springtime scene as we dashed past blooming lilacs for a rendezvous with lunch.

Flowers to Grow
Order# TRV-422

The world of flowers, rediscovered after long winters, brings breathless excitement to young and old as flamboyant color and heady scents fill garden centers across the land. Original spring "drawing and painting" created the week of May 3rd - 8th, 1998, done each morning at home as Abou (temperamental Siamese) enjoyed the beautiful world outside.

Captured in this sketch are the memories of Spring, so special in all growing things as they spread the magic of sweet scents and tender beauty over the gray of winter.
This scene, showing young and old eager to be a part of it, came to life beginning Sunday, May 17. continuing each morning though Memorial Day, May 25th, 1998.

With the growing season on the wane, customers return to gather a harvest at the flower shop sale, brilliant in the colors of fall. Because of this seasons winding down the zest for growing things, no longer could spring's heady breezes provide quick completion for this colorful composition.

In fact, one finds few charming bouquets and nosegays of the Victorian era which lack at least one of this amazing blossom. Of distinctive design, nature has drawn for her palette of colors the most dramatic combinations of deep and delicate color. Hopefully, this may be a posy totuck in your memory.
