DIRKES   -   RUGEN   -   EMERY   -   BARSKY   -   MURRAY   -   SHOEMAKER

ROD DIRKES PHOTOGRAPHED NUMBER 12 BEHIND
A G5s AND AN E6s AT UNION HALL STREET IN 1946.

ROD DIRKES PHOTOGRAPHED H10s NUMBER 113 AT "B" TOWER IN 1946.   NOTE THE SEMAPHORE HOME SIGNALS.   THE STEAMER IS STILL HAND FIRED.

REALLY RARE 1946 ROD DIRKES COLOR SHOT OF A DD1 ON THE L46 AT COPIAGUE.

RARE 1947 PARKINSON COLOR SHOT OF E6s NUMBER 1321 WESTBOUND AT GREAT RIVER.

VERY RARE 1947 COLOR SHOT OF NEW DOUBLEDECKERS WESTBOUND AT GARDEN.
WHEN THESE CARS WERE BUILT THERE WAS A SHORTAGE OF SOME ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS SO THE FIRST FOUR - NUMBERS 202 THROUGH 205 - WERE EQUIPPED WITH CONTROLS BUT WITHOUT MOTORS,   AND CLASSIFIED "T70".   BY THE EARLY 1950'S THEY RECEIVED MOTORS AND WERE RECLASSIFIED AS "MP70A" NUMBERS 1337 THROUGH 1340.   THIS BILL SHOEMAKER PHOTO SHOWS CAR NUMBER 205 AT THE HEAD OF THE TRAIN.

BILL SHOEMAKER ALSO SHOT THIS K4s WESTBOUND APPROACHING HAMPTON BAYS IN 1947.

VERY RARE 1949 BILL RUGEN COLOR SHOT OF AN H6sb AT MORRIS PARK.

DR. JOHN MURRAY PHOTOGRAPHED THIS VISITING PENNSY FAIRBANKS MORSE UNIT WESTBOUND AT RAILROAD AVENUE CROSSING PATCHOGUE.

VERY RARE 1949 COLOR SHOT OF A G53sd BY BILL RUGEN.

1949 BILL RUGEN COLOR SHOT OF A C51 AT MORRIS PARK.   NEXT TO THE 257 IS A P.R.R. H9 WITH A SNOW PLOW - IN THE DISTANCE IS AN H6sb.

ROD DIRKES PHOTOGRAPHED TRAIN NUMBER 38 BEHIND A DD1 NEAR GRAND STREET.
THE NEW YORK CONNECTING RAILROAD CROSSES THE LONG ISLAND IN THE DISTANCE.

PHENOMINAL 1950 PHOTOGRAPH BY HENRY BARSKY SHOWS "CHANGE OF POWER" IN JAMAICA.   IN THE "EAST LAYUP" AT THE UPPER LEFT IS A BRAND NEW FAIRBANKS-MORSE C LINER READY TO BACK ONTO ITS EASTBOUND TRAIN IN THE STATION.   IN THE "ENGINE LAYUP TRACK" IS A PENNSY K4s ALSO AWAITING AN EASTBOUND TRAIN.   PASSING "HALL" TOWER IS A DD1 ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE WHICH HAD JUST DELIVERED A TRAIN FROM PENN STATION AND WHICH WILL RETURN TO PENN STATION OR TO MORRIS PARK YARD.

ROD DIRKES PHOTOGRAPHED ACCELERATING G5s - THAT'S WHAT G5's DID -
NUMBER 27 FROM UNION HALL STREET STATION.

OYSTER BAY TRAIN NUMBER 552 ENGINE 24 IN AUGUST 1955.
UNTIL THE VERY END OF STEAM THE CLUB CAR TRAIN ALWAYS HAD A G5s -
THE MOST RELIABLE POWER AND IN COLD WEATHER THE BEST HEAT.

EAST OF WOODBURY ROAD IN HICKSVILLE ROD DIRKES PHOTOGRAPHED
ACCELERATING K4s NUMBER 3655 ON TRAIN NUMBER 652,   THE PORT JEFFERSON
CLUB CAR TRAIN.   NOTE THE SCREENS ON THE OPEN CAR WINDOWS!

VERY SURPRISING PHOTOGRAPH BY DOCTOR JOHN MURRAY OF A G5s AT PATCHOGUE IN THE SPRING OF 1955.   THE BUDD RDC IS BRAND NEW AND MAY HAVE BEEN DELIVERED BY THE STEAMER.   WHEN THE RAILROAD PAID TAXES NEW EQUIPMENT WAS DELIVERED TO EASTERN TERMINALS TO AVOID NEW YORK CITY SALES TAX.

BOB EMERY PHOTOGRAPHED THE L-63 (GREENPORT FREIGHT) GOING WEST THROUGH SOUTHOLD IN DECEMBER 1954.   SINCE THE FREIGHT USUALLY LEFT GREENPORT IN THE EARLY MORNING WE THINK FROM THE LIGHTING THAT THIS WAS CHRISTMAS EVE OR NEW YEARS EVE WHEN IT TURNED AND WENT WEST WITHOUT LAYING OVER.
