HOWARD HOUSE STATION
THE HOWARD HOUSE WAS THE TERMINUS OF THE BROOKLYN & ROCKAWAY BEACH - THE CANARSIE LINE - A STOP (PROBABLY THE WESTERN TERMINAL) ON THE BROOKLYN CENTRAL AND JAMAICA, 1861 - 1867, AND THE LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD 1867 - 1902. ONE OR MORE HORSE CAR AND LATER TROLLEY LINES TERMINATED HERE. THIS IS A BROOKLYN CENTRAL AND JAMAICA TRAIN IN 1865. THE FIVE YEAR OLD LOCOMOTIVE IS THEIR NUMBER ONE, THE "W.B. HUNTER", LATER L.I.R.R. NUMBER 40, "HUNTINGTON".

THE TRAIN FURTHEST LEFT IS STANDING AT HOWARD HOUSE STATION AT A STOP SIGNAL CONTROLLED FROM THE OVERHEAD TOWER AT MANHATTAN CROSSING, THE CROSSING AT GRADE OF THE ATLANTIC DIVISION AND THE NEW YORK & MANHATTAN BEACH RAILWAY. THE HIGHWAY GRADE CROSSING THERE IS WILLIAMS AVENUE - THE ONE EAST THEREOF IS ALABAMA AVENUE. THE TRACK FURTHEST SOUTH (RIGHT) IS THE CANARSIE LINE, THE BROOKLYN AND ROCKAWAY BEACH RAIL ROAD.
SUMMER 1896 HOWARD HOUSE TIMETABLE
ROCKAWAY BEACH TRAINS AT LEFT ARE VIA LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD. SOME REQUIRED A CHANGE AT WOODHAVEN JUNCTION. AT RIGHT ARE TRAINS FOR CANARSIE WITH STEAMBOAT CONNECTIONS FOR ROCKAWAY BEACH.
THE ATLANTIC AVENUE IMPROVEMENT
ON JULY 20, 1903 DIVISION FOUR - THE ELEVATED SECTION BETWEEN WILLIAMS AVENUE AND ATKINS AVENUE - OPENED FOR SERVICE. IT WAS ELECTRIFIED IN 1905. THE TWO ELEVATED TRACKS TO THE SOUTH (RIGHT) ARE THE CONNECTION WITH THE MANHATTAN BEACH DIVISION. THE TWO TRACKS IN THE STREET ARE THE CANARSIE LINE.
