DIVISION TWO'S ELEVATED STRUCTURE OPENED NOVEMBER 21, 1903
FOR NEARLY TWO YEARS FREIGHT AND PASSENGER TRAINS WERE STEAM HAULED


THE LONG ISLAND PLANNED TO REPLACE THE STEAM RAPID TRANSIT OPERATION WITH
TROLLEY CAR SERVICE BENEATH THE EL AND ACTUALLY INSTALLED RAILS AND BOND WIRES

TURNSTILE.   NOSTRAND AVENUE WAS SO BUSY THAT TICKET COLLECTORS
WERE STATIONED ON THE EASTBOUND PLATFORM AROUND THE CLOCK
AND ON THE WESTBOUND PLATFORM FROM 7:00 A.M. UNTIL 3:00 P.M.
